Minutes for General Meeting 6th of July 2026

1. Attendance and Apologies
   Attending: Claire Dickson (Chair), Greg Easton (Secretary), Madeline Skeoch, Paul MacAlinden, Esme Clark, Robert Preston, Gina Preston, Anne Melvin, Douglas McDonald, Anastascia McDonald, John Foster, Zevon Rustom, Danny O’Neill, Sofie Rytz

2. Approval of Minutes from June
   Approval given by Madeline Skeoch and Robert Preston.

3. Govan Music Festival Thing - find booket
   Paul MacAlinden presented the meeting with a preview of the Glasgow Barons Early Music Festival, which will be held between the 24th and 26th of July. Six events will be held in The Govan Old Church, featuring top performers including Pei-Jee Ng, the principal cellist of the RSNO and The Royal Sackbut Collective.

   The goal is to drive people into our spaces in Govan using music. The meeting thanked Paul for all of his efforts putting these high quality events on and offered any assistance going forward.

4. Reports

   1. Elected Officials
      Dr Zubir Ahmed MP (Represented by Zevron Rustom)
      Zevron Rustom updated the meeting on the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) and the potential downgrading of Govan Fire Station. Dr Ahmed met with SFRS representatives to advocate for Govan before the final review steps were taken. While no final decision has been released, it is part of a wider modernization strategy for SFRS estates. Concerns of those in the meeting remain regarding the potential loss of an engine, the density of older tenements, and the overall impact of funding constraints.

      Other activities include supermarkets surgeries, community walkarounds, and an upcoming technology event with Google for local businesses and GYIP, and asked them to invite people who attend Govan Job Centre. An Early Day Motion was also presented in Parliament for local charities.

   2. Planning & Licensing
      No new licensing items were received. Planning items discussed included a mezzanine installation at Robert Street and a new shed for BAE. Noted road closures included Govan Road for water works and Helen Street for electricity.

5. New & Existing Matters

   1. Govan Letter Planning
      Plans for the next edition of the Govan Letter are underway, with proposed features on cultural events and Farmers Markets. Potential funding sources, including trade unions, were discussed.

   2. GovanHELP
      Katy Donnelly shared information regarding a place-based working project in Central Govan and Linthouse. A drop-in session is scheduled for Wednesday, July 15th, from 11am to 3pm at the Pearce Institute to engage the community on local priorities.

   3. Community Concern - Elderpark Street and others
      Concerns were raised regarding the condition of pavements, nuisance parking, and anti-social behavior in the area. It was agreed to seek assistance from Jim Ellis and encourage residents to report incidents to the police to help identify trends. Since the meeting, this matter has been addressed.

   4. Resident’s Usage of Bin Hubs - Crossloan Road
      Waste management issues, such as bags left out and rat problems on Uist Street, were discussed. The Renfrewshire “Team Up to Clean Up” model was proposed as a potential solution requiring coordination between the council, housing associations, and voluntary groups. This will be a target for further discussion in September.

   5. New Homes at Nimmo Drive/Elderpark Street
      With the construction nearly finished and the homes due to moved into soon, the street had fallen into a poor state during construction and because of the barriers present. The meeting requested a cleanup of the construction area near Nimmo Drive - Secretary agreed to contact Jim Ellis.

   6. Park Signage and Heritage Funding
      A graffiti-spoiled sign at Mrs. Elder’s statue requires cleaning. Progress on Area Partnership funding for heritage structures in the park was also queried.

6. AOCB or Questions

   1. Social Media Issues
      Concerns were raised around the “ahcumfaegovan” Facebook Group and the content being posted there. It serves as a default Facebook hub for information related to events and matters in the local area, however there has been an increase in content those in the meeting considered to be toxic. Racial profiling, hate speech, and not serving the purpose of what the group was originally intended - perhaps due to poor moderation. It was agreed that a member would write to local representatives on behalf of the CC.

   2. Local Maintenance Issues
      A matter was raised regarding the green signposts at either end of the Langlands Road Mixed Use Path, both facing the wrong way and having fallen down their posts. The Secretary agreed to pass this along.

7. Date of Next Meeting
   The next meeting is set for Monday, September 7th, 2026, at 7pm in the same location. August is our traditional summer break.
